About Batman Game (1989)

Released in 1989 by Ocean software on a number of home computers such as the Amiga, C64, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. Then later on the Sega Genesis in 1990.

The game consists of five stages based on events from the Batman movie. Each stage has a time limit and health gauge, with Batman losing a life if he runs out of either.

How to Play Batman

Batman uses a grappling hook and has the ability to jump walls. He is also able to use three projectile weapons. These are the batarang, batdisk, and bat speargun, and which are powered by pellet cartridges.

The stages of the game consist of the streets of Gotham City, Axis Chemical Plant, Gotham Sewers, Mysterious Laboratory, and the Gotham Cathedral Belltower. They are based on events and locations from the movie.

Complete all five stages and defeat the Joker to complete the game.

Game Stages

Each stage has a time limit and there is a health gauge (this is shown by Batman's face turning into the Joker's). The player loses a life if they run out of either.

In stage one, Batman fights through the Axis Chemical Plant to confront Jack Napier.

In stage two, Batman uses the Batmobile to get across Gotham City. He must dodge traffic and use the grapple to turn corners at high speeds. Miss three consecutive turns, and Batman will run into a police roadblock. That will cost a life.

Stage three, has a puzzle set in the Batcave. Batman must identify various components for Smilex, the lethal chemical The Joker has placed into consumer goods. In order to solve the puzzle, correctly guess three poisoned items from a group of eight. Careful though, as each incorrect guess causes loss of health.

Stage four, is during The Joker's parade. Batman must fly in the Batwing and cut away the Smilex Gas filled balloons. He must do this without making contact with the balloons themselves or the parade floats to which they are tethered.

Stage five. The final stage of the game finds Batman climbing up to the top of the Gotham City Cathedral. Here he must defeat The Joker, stopping him from escaping on a helicopter.
