About Bubble Bobble
Bubble Bobble is maybe the best arcade platform game ever. Released by Taito in August 1986 and distributed by Romstar, it was Designed by Fukio Mitsuji, with composing by Tadashi Kimijima. C64 and ZX Spectrum versions were later published by UK software company Firebird.
How to Play
In Bubble Bobble each player controls one of two dragons. You must trap the enemies in bubbles and burst them to kill them. The more enemies you burst in one go the better the scoring and rewards. Collect special items to boost your powers and skip levels. There are also secret rooms which have high scoring diamonds.
To complete each level you must kill all the enemies to progress to the next or find an umbrella which will transport you some levels further into the game. To complete the game you must rescue Bub and Bob's girlfriends from Baron Von Blubba, who kidnapped them. This takes place on level 100.
Completing the Game
There are different endings to the Bubble Bobble game. In the 100th and final level of the game, players face the games boss. If you complete it in single-player mode, it reveals a message saying the game hasn't truly ended, "Come here with your friend" it says. If two players complete Bubble Bobble, they will see the message "happy end" and a depiction of brothers Bub and Bob transformed into their human selves and then reunited with their girlfriends.
The two player ending includes a code that allows the game to be re-played in a faster and a more difficult "super" mode. If two players manage to complete the game again, a slightly different "happy end" is shown, where a Super Drunk (the defeated boss) is revealed to be Bub and Bob's parents, who have been under the control of an outside influence. The two brothers then return back to normal and reunited with their girlfriends and parents.
